ChatWidget vs Intercom Fin

Last verified 27 August 2026

Intercom Fin is a support product with the channels, certifications and customer list to match; ChatWidget is a shopping assistant for one website. Choose Fin if you already run Intercom and need one agent across email, chat and messaging. Choose ChatWidget for a WooCommerce store that wants live stock, a cart in the chat, a published rupee price and a trace behind every answer.

What Intercom Fin does better

  • Far wider channel reach. Fin answers across the channels Intercom already occupies; this product is a website widget and nothing else.
  • A mature support suite around it, ticketing, workflows, reporting, that exists because Intercom was a help desk first.
  • Certifications built for AI procurement specifically: alongside SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 27701 and HIPAA they now name ISO 42001 and AIUC-1. We hold none of the six.
  • Scale, stated plainly on their own page: over 12,000 brands and a 76% average resolution rate.

Where this one is stronger

  • Retrieval is visible. Every answer carries the chunks considered, their scores, and a reason on each rejection.
  • A measured loader size, published on the widget page and held under an 8 KB budget the build enforces, and no layout space reserved on your page.
  • Plan limits are published, including tool timeout, rate limit and version-history depth, and so is the price. Fin's is outcome-based with no number on the page.

If your support already lives in Intercom, Fin is the lower-friction choice and this page will not pretend otherwise. The integration you do not have to build is worth more than a feature comparison.

Fin moved to its own domain during 2026, intercom.com/fin now redirects to fin.ai, and the page that greets you there is not really a feature list. It is scale: 12,000 brands, a 76% average resolution rate, and Anthropic among the logos. If you are buying reassurance that the category works, they have more of it than anyone, and considerably more of it than we do.

The certifications are worth watching even if you are not buying Fin. ISO 42001 and AIUC-1 are AI-specific, they did not appear on vendor pages a year ago, and they are becoming the bar an enterprise security review asks about. We hold neither, and our security page says so in as many words rather than leaving you to notice.

Where the two differ is what happens when an answer is wrong. Fin does not show you which documents it retrieved or how they scored, so a wrong answer leaves you rewriting a source or adding an instruction and hoping. That is the gap this product exists to close.

Pick Fin if channel breadth, an existing Intercom estate, or an AI-specific certification decides it. Pick this if you expect to be debugging answer quality yourself, on a website, and want to see the retrieval stage while you do.

Pricing: Fin publishes no rate on fin.ai. The model is described as outcome-based and no number appears on the page, so any per-resolution figure quoted for Fin, including any we have quoted before, did not come from their pricing page and should not be relied on., checked 26 August 2026.

Questions people ask when choosing between the two

Is Intercom Fin suitable for a small online store?

It can be, if you already run Intercom and want one assistant across every channel it covers. It does not read a store's catalogue or fill a cart, and it publishes no price. ChatWidget does all three, on a website only.

Which is more transparent about how answers are produced?

ChatWidget shows every retrieved passage, its score and the reason each rejected one was dropped, on every answer. We could not find an equivalent on Fin's pages; if one exists, this page will say so once it is verified.

Which holds more certifications?

Fin, by a distance: six named on its own page. ChatWidget holds none and says so on its security page.
